Skincare Tips & Checklists
By Jessica S. Wax Specialist at Waxworx
Waxing is a professionally recommended method for hair removal with minimal pain and ultra-smooth, long-lasting results for getting rid of unwanted hair. While traditionally soft wax was used with the application of strips for removal, hard wax hardens on its own without the use of any paper strips adhering strongly to the hair follicles directly versus the skin. The wax hardens and removes the hair from the root leaving behind smooth skin with lasting results.
While we are confident that you will simply fall in love with your skin just after your very first wax, the secret to maintaining sexy, silky smooth skin all year round relies on how well you maintain your skin before and after your wax sessions! Don’t worry we got you covered with everything from how to prepare, what to expect, to any questions or concerns you may have. We have put together a the ultimate list of do’s and don’ts for your next waxing appointment so you too can show off your beautiful skin everyday!

Read through the checklist below to see if any of the following apply to you:
Pre-Care:
For your visit, we recommend wearing loose fitted clothes to allow your skin to breathe and avoid anything that may be the cause for skin irritation.
We also advise not applying any lotions or serums over the desired wax area to allow strong adherence of the hair to the wax ensuring hair removal from the roots.
This one is important - please avoid shaving/ tweezing / threading between wax appointments for best results. This will allow your hair growth to stay on the same regrowth cycle.
It is recommended to exfoliate two days prior to your wax appointment. This will help prevent ingrowns and allow from maximum removal of the hair from the root. Avoid exfoliating the day before or day of to avoid skin irritation.
Please remember to inform your wax specialist of any possible allergy to skin ointments or if you are taking any medications such at Retin-A or Accutane for skin acne. If you are currently taking this medication, it is recommended to reframe from using Retin-A for a full week before scheduling your wax appointment. If you are using Accutane, you must be off the medication for a minimum of 6 months - 1 year prior to waxing ( consult with your physician before waxing). Please discuss with your waxer if you are currently taking any oral or topical medications.
We recommend to grow you hair to a minimum length of the size of 3/4th of an inch, the length of the size of a rice grain, for an optimum wax experience. We do not recommend trimming, don’t worry, we can manage long hairs.
Please avoid any chemical peels 2 weeks prior to your wax appointment.
It is best to avoid waxing if you have active eczema or psoriasis over the area of interest.
Aftercare:
If possible, please avoid tanning at least 24-48 hours before and after to your wax appointment. Pre-tanning may contribute to increased skin sensitivity and cause discomfort during your wax session. Post-tanning may lead to a sunburn and skin irritation.
This one is important - avoid sweating, sauna, steam, bath, or swimming for at least 24 hours to allow the open pores to close.
As a form of good skincare practices, we recommend to continue exfoliating your skin 2-3 times every week to remove the dead skin and prevent the growth of ingrown hair. If you struggle with ingrown hair, ask about our ingrown hair serum during your visit.
No make-up 24 hours after.
No touching of the skin.
No tight clothes including leggings/yoga pants.
No exfoliation the day of or day after.
